Violist, violinist and singer-songwriter Marla Hansen has been active as a performing and recording musician throughout the United States and Europe. As violist of the New York based string quartet Osso, she toured and recorded with many different artists including Sufjan Stevens and My Brightest Diamond, and she can be heard on Osso’s critically acclaimed 2009 record “Run Rabbit Run.” She was violinist in Jens Lekman‘s band for several years, with whom she extensively toured and recorded. Marla has also worked with The NationalKim JanssenThe New PornographersInletsMockyDenison WitmerOneidaThe Hidden CamerasDM StithJay-ZKanye WestClare and the ReasonsDuncan Sheik and Alice and Ravi Coltrane among others.

In 2007, the Indianapolis-based Standard Recording Company released “Wedding Day,” a collection of songs for voice, viola and acoustic instruments. Marla also composed the score for the 2012 documentary film, The Other Half of Tomorrow, a film about women working for change in Pakistan. “Dust,” her latest record, was released on March 6, 2020 on the Karaoke Kalk Label. A delicate but powerful blend of folk and electronic songwriting, “Dust” was recorded by Robbie Moore at Berlin’s Impression Studios, and features contributions from Barbara MorgensternAndi Haberl and Knox Chandler.

Marla’s next record, ‘Salt’, is scheduled for release on March 15th, 2024, again on the Karaoke Kalk label. Produced by Simon Goff, ‘Salt’ is a strong, varied and unique record that combines the acoustic and electric in an entirely new way. It features collaborations with Andi Haberl, Benjamin Lanz, Kyle Resnick, Christian Biegai, Kelly Watson Woelffer and DM Stith.
