thom yorke’s ‘daily battles’
The idea to make this collection of four cover songs, ‘Laugh Into The Leaves,’ came together last year. I had been performing my songs live with my friends Anna Eichholz and Alice Dixon on the violin and cello, and playing with them reminded me of the wonderful, liberating simplicity of combining voice and strings.
This first song, ‘Daily Battles’ by Thom Yorke, was released in 2019 as part of the soundtrack to the film ‘Motherless Brooklyn.’ From first hearing I was struck by its simple, raw power, and I hope this version will communicate some of that. The remaining three songs will come out one by one over the next few months. The wonderful video is by @nuraqureshi, made with stop motion photography of her own beautiful artwork.
This project gave me a lot of joy, not the least of which was working with so many friends, and finding how they were as excited about working on these songs as I was. I want to thank everyone who was involved, and thank you for listening!
